The topic this week was the Tar Sands issue. Joining us on Shades of Green Energy Radio at 91.7 FM were Environmental Advocate and Chemical Engineer, Chris Wilson and Trevor Lovell from Public Citizen Texas and Statewide Director of ReEnergize Texas.
Wilson by no means minced words when it came to discussing the Tar Sands project and the Keystone XL pipeline proposed to transport the bituminous sands to the US. The true weight of the issue came alive as Wilson described the tar sands problem as a devastating global climate crime.
Lovell continued the conversation saying, “It’s not just safety, it’s not only environmental concerns … the real issue is that there are other green energy solutions.” He went on to say for a healthy economy and homeland we need to consider smart environmental management including smart choices and smart engineering.
Studies used to substantiate the project have left a trail that brings us to lobbying groups that Wilson describes as, “using junk science.” She went on to use strong words to describe the insider politics saying, “Dirty oil and dirty politics equals fraud.”
